Quake II RTX is NVIDIA's attempt at implementing a fully functional version of Id Software's 1997 hit game Quake II with RTX path-traced global illumination. Since Quake II RTX is using path tracing, NVIDIA says that the game has high ray tracing workloads that will require RT Cores. Unlike the pre-baked lighting systems used in the past, ray-tracing simulates the actual path of multiple rays of light off different surfaces to create more accurate color and brightness data for each object.
